Scofield Manor Residents | Hank Gans Photography
These are some of the residents as I photographed them against a green-screen background which was replaced, digitally, with the locations they chose.
Joyce and Jonathan at Sunset, Vero Beach
Lynne Near the Sea, Sarasota, Florida
Dorothy in a spring arboretum
Ben and Genine at a Football Game
Sandy, at sunrise, on Vero Beach, Florida
Merideth and Fred are a married couple. Merideth absolutely wanted to wear her fur coat when I photographed her in the makeshift studio at the Manor. So I decided to take her and Fred to a place where she'd want to wear it, Broadway on a cold winter day.
Mo, a former Air Force nurse, at an airshow with the Thunderbirds, in formation, behind her
I put James, a science fiction fan, in an astronaut's spacesuit. He was very pleased.
Laura and Jaime met and married at Scofield Manor. When I asked them what they loved they told us "each other and music". I tried to show the couple enjoying both at Carnegie Hall.
Alberta with Flowering Trees
John, an elderly man of few words, mentioned his youth in South Carolina. Not knowing any details of this period in his life I had to imagine his life back then. He approved of my choice of the Rural South background.
Sophie is a 91 year old former Rockette. I placed her in front of the current Rockettes. Upon seeing the photo she said "I look like their teacher." Sophie was wearing a house frock for the session. I found this red dress and her earrings on the internet.
Patricia, a retired British fashion designer, at Westminster Abbey
Sharon loves flowers and Jesus. I decided to bring her to a place I photographed two years ago where I found Jesus amidst the flowers.
Georgiana was very uncomfortable in front of the camera. She fled after just three shots. But she did tell us she liked summer. I pondered how I could put her in a summer scene wearing her winter coat. Then I realized that coat would still be needed high in the mountains.
Helena at the Bartlett Arboretum in Fall
Horace, an Atlanta native, in front of the Ebenezer Baptist Church
Margie, a native of the Fordham section of the Bronx, in New York, was transported digitally to the New York Botanical Gardens, one of her favorite places.
Anne's favorite dog is the Chihuahua. My wife, Nicole, found this background for her, which Anne loves.
Paulette, a staff aid, came in to see what was going on and struck this pose in front of the camera. She looks right at home on the runway.
Ludwig, Scofield Manor's cook, at a Football Game
Thom catching a large striped bass on the Long Island Sound.
Frank Crocheting in the Hemingway House garden, Key West, Florida
Kent's favorite artist is Andrew Wyeth. I placed Kent in one of Wyeth's paintings, "Battleground". The blue cap and coat are part of the original painting. Kent fit into them perfectly.
